Completed renders of the same empty living room in NovaVerto, Collov AI and Virtual Staging AI, and a Spacely AI bedroom

Both products cover a wide range of home-design jobs. My preference for NovaVerto comes from how those jobs fit around the current room: More tools, model selection, version history and shopping panels are close to the result.

I’m a co-founder of NovaVerto. This comparison explains why I prefer its workflow, using the original September browser trial and the product review on 3 October.

Where NovaVerto makes the difference against HomeDesigns AI

I’ve chosen these comparison points specifically for HomeDesigns AI. The final column explains why each matters to my preference for NovaVerto; it does not treat an untested competitor feature as absent.

What matters in this comparisonNovaVertoHomeDesigns AIWhy it matters to my choice
Open the next tool inside the projectYes — Touches → More tools: 28 tools within the project.Advertised — Broad suite of named design and editing tools.NovaVerto’s 28-tool picker leads to the chosen task’s settings while keeping the current room as the working context.
Give the first run a more complete briefYes — Room, 23 styles, palette and budget; custom descriptions.Tested — Free editor: five room types and five styles. In the inspected NovaVerto flow I can set palette and budget as well as room and style. The separate HomeDesigns free editor had narrower controls.
Choose a named model and see its costYes — 11 model families, search, filters and visible credit costs.Advertised — Design modes; comparable provider picker not verified. The 11-family picker is a concrete part of the current NovaVerto workspace I could inspect, beyond comparing advertised design modes.
Work on one finish or detailYes — Walls, floor, lighting, windows and doors in the inspector.Advertised — Precision+, paint and material tools.NovaVerto puts the surface controls alongside the room. I prefer that presentation when I want to make a small, specific change.
Treat furniture placement as a separate taskYes — Reference images; up to four furniture pictures/catalogue pieces.Advertised — Design Transfer from inspiration images.I can start from selected catalogue pieces or pictures and choose what happens to the surroundings before running.
Keep a visible sequence of room versionsYes — Original plus version history, Hold for before and Compare. Not found (free plan) — No saved-project/version-history view exposed in the no-login free editor. Private account history remains unverified; the earlier trial did not create an account.I verified the original, numbered versions and comparison controls in NovaVerto; the no-login HomeDesigns editor exposed no saved-project view, while its private account history remains unverified.
Use a shopping workflow I could follow throughYes — Retailer matches and saved list; current Pieces/List UI inspected.Advertised — Furniture Finder; matching accuracy not tested.NovaVerto’s retailer matches and saved list were used in the earlier trial. HomeDesigns’ Furniture Finder was listed, but its match accuracy was not tested.
Review the pieces, offers and saved totalYes — Offers per piece, prices, list total and area re-selection.Advertised — Shopping advertised; equivalent list controls not checked. The separate shopping panels make the path from design to shortlist concrete in the workspace I inspected.
Choose staging explicitly when I need furnitureYes — Virtual Staging and Declutter & Repair in the tool picker.Advertised — Fill Spaces, staging and furniture removal.NovaVerto exposes a dedicated staging task. The tested HomeDesigns free restyle stayed empty; that result does not judge its separate paid staging mode.
Use specific tasks for outdoor spacesYes — Exterior, garden, outdoor planner, balcony and front door.Advertised — Exterior and garden redesign.I prefer dedicated balcony, garden, exterior and front-door entries. Both products advertise substantial outdoor coverage.
Check the selected run’s estimateYes — Live credit estimate beside model, speed, size and variants.Tested — One credit deducted for the free photo restyle.I can see the cost of the current model and settings rather than relying only on a monthly credit count.
Connect an AI assistant to the design workflowYes — Standard API; MCP; Enterprise pooled credits and roles.Advertised — Expert team seats and advanced tools.NovaVerto documents MCP as well as API access, which gives me another way to use its design tools.

Tested = I ran it, in the September trial or the 3 October revisit. Seen / Not found (free plan) = what the free account showed on 3 October; not found there does not mean the paid product lacks it. Advertised = documented by the vendor, often on higher plans. Paywalled = my trial stopped at a subscription screen. Unconfirmed = I could not establish it either way. Edge = a specialist case where I would pick the competitor. NovaVerto’s column was checked in the logged-in app on 3 October. This is a workflow comparison, not a controlled image-quality score. NovaVerto in short

We built NovaVerto around the steps that come after “that room looks nice.” A new design starts with one of three routes, Redesign, Place furniture or Run a tool, and every run stays in the same project: the original photo, numbered versions, Hold for before and Compare.

More tools opens 28 focused tools from the room itself, from walls, floors, lighting, windows and doors to staging, decluttering, exterior, garden and balcony design. The model picker covers 11 model families with search, filters and the credit cost shown before I run: 65 credits for NovaVerto AI, 126 to 176 for the Gemini options at 1K.

After the render, Catalogue, Pieces and List turn the room into retailer offers with prices, a saved shortlist and its total. Placing furniture accepts up to four catalogue pieces or furniture pictures.

The full NovaVerto walkthrough in my comparison of all eleven tools covers each of these in more detail.

HomeDesigns AI: broad coverage, but I prefer NovaVerto’s current workspace

Website: homedesigns.ai

HomeDesigns AI is another broad toolkit. Its current site lists redesign, paint and material changes, precise edits, furniture removal, Furniture Finder and Design Transfer; Expert adds advanced tools such as video and floor plans. HomeDesigns AI tools and plans

My original test used its separate free tool. It accepted the same empty-room photo and spent one credit on a Modern restyle. The output stayed unfurnished, and the right-hand doorway changed. That was the free redesign mode, not its paid staging tool, so I would not generalize that result to every mode.

The difference I care about is how quickly I can get to the next useful action. In NovaVerto, More tools opens from the room’s Touches section, the chosen tool shows its settings, and the next result stays in the project. I can also choose a model and inspect shopping offers from the same working context.

The current free HomeDesigns page still exposes a much smaller set of controls than the broader product descriptions around it. It is worth comparing the actual workflow and plan, rather than counting style names. HomeDesigns AI free editor

I checked the no-login free editor again on 3 October. It exposed the upload, room/style selection and generation/result area, but no saved-project or version-history view. The original trial had not created a private account, and the login page required credentials. NovaVerto’s visible history is therefore a verified reason for my preference; this check does not establish that HomeDesigns lacks history in its private workspace.

Why I prefer NovaVerto: the room, task settings, model choices and shopping panels make a connected workflow I could inspect directly.

What a NovaVerto render actually costs

The cheapest current NovaVerto render is 65 credits. The current Standard offer is $17.99 for the first month, then $24.99 per month, with 7,000 credits per month. I’m showing both rates so the introductory saving and the ongoing cost are clear. Annual discounts are not used in these calculations. NovaVerto pricing

Observed setupCredits$17.99 first month$24.99 regular month
NovaVerto AI · cheapest render65$0.17$0.23
Gemini · Fast · 1K126$0.32$0.45
Gemini · Balanced · 1K149$0.38$0.53
Gemini · Best · 1K176$0.45$0.63

Calculation: the monthly price ($17.99 introductory or $24.99 regular) ÷ 7,000 × the displayed credit cost. These are allocation estimates, not separate pay-per-image prices. They assume the allowance is fully used and exclude credits spent on other actions. At 65 credits, 7,000 credits cover 107 complete renders with 45 credits left; dividing the full month’s charge across those 107 renders rounds to $0.17 with the introductory offer or $0.23 at the regular price. The introductory rate applies to the first month, not every renewal. Other models, sizes and variant counts change the cost.

The current plan cards list watermark-free renders and API access on Standard. Pro is $49.99 monthly for 13,000 credits and includes 2K/4K output; those resolutions were disabled with a Pro requirement in the free account I inspected. One-off credit packs are also available, with a 30-day validity period. Plans and credit packs

HomeDesigns AI price context

This is the regular paid entry recorded in the September review. It is historical context, not a fresh checkout quote. NovaVerto’s table above separately shows the $17.99 first-month offer and $24.99 regular monthly price.

ToolReference paid entryApproximate unit cost on that basis
HomeDesigns AISeptember: CHF24/month / 100 creditsCHF0.24 per one-credit restyle; October public price shows $22 / 100

Credits, source photos and unlimited plans represent different units. Unit-cost estimates assume full use of the relevant allowance; they do not measure rendering quality.

Why I’d choose NovaVerto

I’d choose NovaVerto for its connected project workspace. I can go from a full redesign to a focused tool or furniture decision while keeping the room and its previous versions in view.

My starting point: use the 65-credit NovaVerto AI option for an initial direction, then explore the focused tools and furniture options around that result. At full allowance use, that is about $0.17 per render with the $17.99 first-month offer, or $0.23 at the regular $24.99 monthly price. Explore NovaVerto

Sources and what I actually checked

The original browser trials took place in September 2026. The September trial includes a completed HomeDesigns AI generation, described above. NovaVerto also had a completed redesign and a saved shopping-list item. Photos, modes and prompts differed, so these observations are not a controlled image-quality benchmark.

On 3 October I inspected NovaVerto’s logged-in project workspace, New project/New run dialogs, Touches and its 28 tools, focused wall settings, model picker, speed and size menus, furniture-placement controls, shopping panels and live pricing. No new render or paid purchase was submitted during that revisit.

Official product and pricing pages were checked again on 3 October. Controls I inspected, completed September actions and vendor-documented features are labelled separately. Older prices stay dated where current amounts were not verified.

Free-access follow-up, 3 October: I checked the no-login free editor again on 3 October.

HomeDesigns’ extracted plan lists do not reliably preserve inclusion/exclusion icons. Advanced entitlement is summarized using its plan descriptions and FAQ.

Disclosure: I’m a co-founder of NovaVerto. The recommendation reflects my preferences and the workflow we’re building. Observed controls, earlier completed tests and vendor claims are distinguished throughout; access to a tool does not guarantee identical results across photos or models.
